"The fridge was not cooling. initially i checked that the baffle that feeds cold air from the freezer to the fridge was working and after confirming it was i checked the cooling coils in the freezer. this is checked by removing two screws securing a panel inside the freezer towards the bottom. i could immediately see the cooling coils were iced up. this prevents air being circulated across the coils which meant not enough cold air was being created to be routed to cool the fridge. after investigating the problem could be one of three things. there is a sensor to detect if the coils are icing and if they are this triggers a defrost programme. this sensor can be checked by verifying with a multi-meter. when frozen the sensor should show a circuit. when warm it should show no circuit (ie infinite resistance). the second thing to check is the heating unit that goes around the cooling coils. this is activated during the defrost programme. if this is broken then the coils will probably remain frozen even if the defrost programme runs. the heater should show a resistance of about 130ohms. in my case both the sensor and the heater checked out ok so the only thing left was the control unit. this is located on the back of the fridge (ie not inside the freezer or fridge) and there is a panel covering the base of the fridge that is secured by a few screws that can be removed. make sure the power is off. the control box is on the left hand side and mine was secured by two screws. one was easy to get and one was a real pain. you will need a pretty long philips screw driver. once out its just a matter of swapping plugs over and then reinstalling. i did not bother reinstalling the hard to reach screw so its held with just one now but that seems ok. note for over 10 years our fridge struggled to keep itself cool. we could never get it colder than about 4 degrees even when set to 1 degree and then finally it would not cool at all. it now keeps itself at 1 degree. also while you have the back panel off i suggest you clean any fluffdust that has accumulated in there. note that the replacement unit does not look exactly like the old one and initially i thought i had ordered the wrong part. my old one had two extra plugs coming out the back but these are not used and not present in the replacement unit."
